Radio Luxembourg, a small yet incredibly influential phenomenon of the 20th century, reached over 100 million listeners across 60 countries at its height. The research project Radio Luxembourg – The station that changed our world tells the fascinating history of this multilingual radio station that transcended borders, offering music, culture, and news to generations during some of the most politically and culturally turbulent times in history.

For many, Radio Luxembourg was a secret companion under the covers at night, a bridge to freedom during political oppression, and a cultural beacon in times of uncertainty.

During the Let’s Talk Luxembourg Program, we’ll discuss the delicate balance of influence and responsibility that comes with such power and explore how a small nation like Luxembourg became the beating heart of a station that connected the world.

About the Speaker:

Dominique Santana is a Luxembourg-Brazilian researcher, director and transmedia storyteller based in Luxembourg. As a creative filmmaker and public historian specialised in digital media and immersive storytelling, Dominique has been inventively bridging the gap between the creative worlds of filmmaking, transmedia storytelling and historical narratives, as with her recent transmedia documentary project “A Colônia Luxemburguesa” (2022).

Dominique holds a Ph.D in History from the University of Luxembourg’s Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH), specialised in migration history, Transmedia Storytelling and Digital Public History. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and a master’s degree from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, both in History and Art History. Dominique Santana is currently employed at the University of Luxembourg (C2DH) as a postdoctoral researcher, where she is leading the transmedia project Radio Luxembourg – The station that changed our world (radio.lu).
