Luxembourg American Cultural Society Offers

Free Museum Admission the First Week of February

BELGIUM, WISCONSIN, JANUARY 13, 2023.  The Luxembourg American Cultural Society will be offering Free Museum admission the first week of February 2023 for all residents of Ozaukee, Sheboygan & Washington Counties.

The center’s unique Roots & Leaves Museum is filled with interesting facts about Luxembourg, the world’s only Grand Duchy. Guests learn about Luxembourg immigration to America as well as the impact Luxembourg immigrants and their descendants have had and continue to make on life in America.

The museum is housed in the Mamer-Hansen Luxembourgian stone barn originally built in 1872 by Luxembourg immigrant Jacob Mamer. The barn was carefully dismantled and moved from its original location in the Town of Port Washington in 2005, then rebuilt to house the museum at 100 Peter Thein Avenue in Belgium, which officially opened in 2009.

Its exhibit panels, display cases, furnishings and artwork were all gifts from the people of Luxembourg through the country’s ministry of Culture and were crafted by Luxembourgish artisans.

The Cultural Center is also home to the J. B. Krier Wellkomm Centre, featuring the Luxembourg American Family Tree – an amazing sculpture created in Luxembourg.  The Dooley-Wagner Research Center is another unique facet of the Luxembourg American Cultural Center. The Research Center is the largest research center for Luxembourg studies and genealogy outside of Luxembourg. It is a treasure trove of information and resources for historians, genealogists and researchers.

The offer for free admission is available during the center’s regularly scheduled open hours: 10 am – 4 pm Wednesday, February 1st through Saturday, February 4. Proof of residency is required for free admission.
