Forum Description

Forum Description:

Luxembourg’s literary landscape is one of great diversity and versatility. And one of its most unusual features is its multilingualism. German, French and, of course, Luxembourgish are the predominant languages of literary expression. But a look into Luxembourg’s author’s dictionary reveals many more languages and dialects, all somehow linked to the literary output of the Grand Duchy.

In this talk we will look at – and listen to – some of the unusual aspects of literature from Luxembourg. We will find out what makes Luxembourgish literature unique and investigate the exciting possibilities of playing with language(s).

And, of course, we will learn more about the Luxembourgish language itself and its literary journey around the world. Did you know, for example, that in 1883 a Luxembourgish poetry collection was published in Dubuque, Iowa?
