Capturing Luxembourg American History through Storytelling

Free – $5.00
Nov 05 11:00 AM - Nov 05 12:30 PM

Join us for a talk about Oral History and a behind the scenes look of Voices From the Village!

Olivia Hoff, creator of the Voices From the Village Audio Tour, will delve into the topic of Oral History* and how you can use it to help preserve history! Olivia will share her insights and some behind the scenes details from the Voices From the Village Audio Tour, which used oral histories to tell the story of how Luxembourg Americans lived and worked in the Village of Belgium over the last 100 years. This presentation will include a preview of the audio tour, which you can access and listen to from wherever you live. You can listen to the Voices From the Village Audio Tour through the LACS website or by downloading the VoiceMap app.

Oral history is a field of study and a method of gathering, preserving and interpreting the voices and memories of people, communities, and participants in past events. Oral history is both the oldest type of historical inquiry, predating the written word, and one of the most modern, initiated with tape recorders in the 1940s and now using 21st-century digital technologies.
